Pagan Lingo of the day by Lady Destiny: God/dess -
A specific male or female representation of the Divine of creation. Many Pagan belief systems define 'God' as the God/dess recognizing the fundamental nature of both male and female energies within the Divine force.

The picture was taken of Butchart Gardens which is located near Victoria on Vancouver Island.

Healthy Garden Spell
Perform this spell during the morning hours.

Items needed:
4 small pieces of moss agate

Go to the center of your garden and hold up the stones to your third eye. Visualize your garden being green and producing an abundance of flowers, fruits or vegetables. Toss the stones one by one toward the four corners of the plot or garden and say the following:

“O active, Fertile Lower Sun
I call upon You, Virile One
To fertilize this garden well
And activate the stones that fell
So that together You'll produce
A healthy garden so profuse
That none has ever seen its kind
By these words, You are assigned
To do these things I ask of Thee
As I will so mote it be.”

Bury the stones where they lay and tend to the garden.

Some herbs and their uses for increasing luck

Pineapple: dried, is placed in bags and added to baths to draw good luck to the bather.

Dream Catcher Spell

Take a dream catcher and whisper these words into it very quietly and under your breath:

“Oh dream catcher

let me sleep like a bear
until I wake up
so mote it be!”

This will bring you good dreams for the rest of the night.

A Mother's Love Candle Spell

author unknown

Set aside a night that you and your children will be able to complete this without interruption.

Take your children out to a candle store and purchase the following candles for each of them

1 Angel Candle- to represent the spirits and guardians
1 Animal Candle- to represent the animals spirits protecting you
1 Faerie Candle- to represent the faeries
1 Candle to represent the Gods and Goddesses
2 candles for each child-I representing the child and one representing you

Let each of your children pick out one candle to represent themselves. You should also pick one representing yourself and your love for each individual child.

Once you are back home carve the child's name on the back of "their" candle, making sure you both share in doing this. Repeat this with each child and "their"candle. Then on your candles, write your name allowing each child help you with your task.

Place the candles around all of you making sure they are not too close or that they will be knocked over easily. Be sure to pair the candles representing you with each child's. Next, light the candles. Then help your child(ren) visualize a white ball of protection above their heads and also you do the same. Increase the size of the balls so that they
encircle each of you.

Next say the following and have your children repeat after you-

"The Light of God surrounds us
The Love of Goddess enfolds us
The Power of God flows over us and protects us
The Presence of Goddess watches over us"
"Spirits and Guardians this night
Be drawn to our candlelight
Love and Protect us
Watch over and Guide us
Protect us from these evil harms
Enfold us in your loving arms"

When you are done with this, take your child(ren) in your arms and picture a white ball above your head. Fill that ball with your love for your children and bring the ball down and cover yourself and children in this ball. When you feel the strength in yourself, take the candles and leave them lit in the room you are in. Then you and the child(ren )do some activities that you all can do together.( something you all enjoy) Spend the rest of the evening together. The spirits, angels, guardians, gods and goddesses , and faeries will join you in this sharing and love.

Birthday Wish Spell

Items Needed:
Your Birthday
Paper
Pen
Flowering plant (plant that is already in a pot or plant a seed)

On your birthday, write your wish on a piece of paper and keep it under the plant. By placing your wish under the pot as the seed grows you wish shall grow and manifest.

A True Beauty Spell

Items needed:
A dish full of earth (good soil, not dry dusty dirt)
A yellow candle
A full-sized mirror
Olive, patchouli, jasmine or cinnamon essential oil
A small flower pot
A flower or plant seed

Anoint the candle with the essential oil you have chosen. Place it in the center of the dish of earth. Light it and sit down with it between you and a mirror. Look deeply into the mirror, concentrate on your reflection. Without being vain, consider the things you find most beautiful about yourself, not just physically, but mentally as well. What is your inner beauty, what is your outer beauty?

It’s important that you never think of what you feel must be "changed". Be as positive about the beauty that you have already. Perform this ritual 3 nights in a row. Once the entire candle has burned down, remove the wax from the dish. Place the earth from the dish inside a small flower pot and plant a seed inside it. Water it and care for it so that it grows properly. You will soon find that you beauty
will grow, flourish and shine brighter then ever before, just as the plant grows before you, emerging from its seed.

Angel

Pagan Lingo by Lady Destiny: Angel -
An angel is another word for a spiritual being who acts as a messenger between the realm of the divine (your higher power) and the physical plane (the mortal plane). I personally believe that angels can go by many names like spirits, ghosts, guardians, spirit guide, fairy and so on. It really does all depend on how you view your messenger. It is believed that this being has never been an incarnated state.

The Elements (Spirit)

The Elements…

Are believed to be the building blocks of the universe. In many pagan practices there are 5 elements earth, air, fire, water and spirit/divine. Though it is not unheard of for there to be more then just the 5. It is believed that everything in the world around us contains one or more of these elemental energies.

Spirit

The Element of Spirit is also known as Akasha. Spirit is the immutable, changeless source of all energy. More often the element of spirit is seen as the Mother of the elements. Some say that the spark of life, that unknowable force that is called the "soul," is this element’s energy housed in the physical body. This element rules the realm of would-be: of promise, of paths not yet taken, of unformed galaxies. Primarily this element is un-beingness. It is energy, which extends everywhere all through the universe, has not yet gained form and substance. Spirit is the primal source of energy that creates and fuels the elements because of this it is complete balanced energy: Earth and Air and Fire and Water. It is due to this complete balance that there is not much that is unique to Spirit as far as correspondences.

Spirit Correspondences

    * Direction: North, east, south and west; also within and without; up and down; also, a complete lack of directions and dimensions.
    * Type of energy: Projective/Receptive.
    * Color: Purple or black
    * Places: Outer space; vacuums; the Void.
    * Rituals: Religious in nature.
    * Creatures: None (and yet, all).
    * Season: All (and yet, none).
    * Time: Eternal starlight.
    * Types of Magick Rules: Religious.

With this element being the mother over all elements I thought what a perfect moment to share a recipe that has expecting mothers in mind. I hope you all enjoy.

Belly Balm (expecting Mom's)

1/4 cup cocoa butter
1 tablespoon wheat germ oil (or I sometimes use shea butter)
3 tablespoon apricot kernel oil (or any other rich oil - avocado, almond)
1 tablespoon grated beeswax (about 10 grams)

Melt all together gently in double boiler. Stir every now and then as it cools. You could add some lavender oil if you wanted - 12 drops for every 2 tablespoon of base oil. They tell me if nothing else, it does ease the itching.

The Elements (Fire)

The Elements…

Are believed to be the building blocks of the universe. In many pagan practices there are 5 elements earth, air, fire, water and spirit/divine. Though it is not unheard of for there to be more then just the 5. It is believed that everything in the world around us contains one or more of these elemental energies.

FIRE

Fire is a masculine element and governs all candle magick. Fire is a creator and destroyer. It warms the homes we live in, cooks the food we eat, and fuels our passions. Unlike the other elements, Fire cannot exist in physical form without consuming something else. It is for this reason that fire is seen as a transforming element. Changing objects into new forms: heat, light, ash, and smoke. Immerse yourself in the energy of fire by placing your hand on a warm rock, smell the smoke from a burning fire or gazing into a candles flame. By doing so one comes to realize that fire also exists within one’s self. Fire is believed to need to be controlled to be of benefit to us. When we light a candle, we call upon its powers, but also limit them. With this said we must also learn to control the fire within ourselves. Fire is the element of change, passion, authority, leadership, creativity, motivation, will power, drive and sensuality. It is sexuality, both physical and spiritual. Fire is essential to spells and rituals of healing, purification, sex, breaking bad habits or destroying illness and disease.

Fire protection and Binding spell

Of course since the element of fire governs over candle magick I am going to share a candle spell.

Items needed:
Black candle (one that drips well is best)
Picture of the person causing you harm (if you don't have a picture then write on a piece of paper as much info about the person as possible)
White ribbon

Cast your circle and light the candle. Fold the picture or paper. Begin to wrap the ribbon around the picture or paper left to right. As you wrap the ribbon say:

"I bind you (name here) from causing further harm
in my life and those of the ones I love.
I bind and remove all power you
may have over me or may send towards me."

Visualize the white ribbon acting as a white light wrapping around the person and removing all bad energy they have been sending to you.

Once the ribbon is fully wrapped around the image or paper you take the black candle and drip the wax over the wrapped item. Coating it completely, so this part will take some time. As you coat the paper or picture see the black wax protecting you and your loved ones from this person.

When it is coated to your liking place in a safe place, where no one will disturb it. Check on it every two months. If there are cracks, breaks in the wax  this could mean the person is breaking through the protection. All you need to do is recoat with more black candle wax.

 Lemon Salt Scrub:
Since one of the correspondences for Earth is salt I thought this would be a fun and easy recipe to do.
Items you will need:

5 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lemon

First mix the olive oil and sea salt together. Once the salt gets coated by the oil, the lemon won’t dissolve it! Next cut the lemon in half and squeeze over the salt + oil. Mix and mash. (Feel free to adjust the recipe to your liking.) Now scrub away
:-)

Working a spell

Basic Working Spell Outline

We all have different ways and routines when it comes to casting. So what I have done here is put together a basic guideline that you all may find helpful. These are in no way set in stone and can be changed to suit your needs. This is just a suggestion.

Ritual Preparation:
Choose a time and a place. What tools you need, make sure to set them up in the space you will be using. How are you going to raise energy (ie: dance, chanting, drumming, etc.) Choose how you want to cast and close a circle.

Cleanse yourself and your magickal space:
You can do this with a ritual bath for yourself, which might I add is so relaxing. Through meditation to help calm and focus your mind. You can cleanse your space with a ritual broom, incense, burning herbs or with a cleansing potion (used in a spray bottle). How ever feels right to you.

Cast the Circle:
Please see blog post “Casting”

Invocation of the Divine:
This part is to call upon the elements and/or a deity into your circle.

Statement of purpose:
This is simply to tell the Divine why you have called him/her to the circle.

Magickal Working:
This would be casting the spell or ritual you came to cast. Remember to ground your energy when you have completed the working.

Offering: (optional)
This practice is normally done during a ritual but is not unheard of for more powerful spell work. Normally an offering is food like cakes or bread and wine/mead or milk. Eat a small piece of offering and then place the rest in a offering bowl for the God/dess. When the spell is over do not throw the offering away. That is disrespectful and can upset the deity you offered it to. It should be placed or poured outside given back to the earth.

Thanking the Divine:
Thank the deity for helping you in your work and listening to your request.

Close the Circle:

This is the time you dismiss and thank the elements and open the circle.

As I said before this is just to give you a guideline as to what can be done for a spell. Not every step must be followed when casting. I simply find when I am writing something out it is nice to see an example layout of what is could look like.

Spell writing

Even though I will provide many helpful spells you can cast it is always good to know how to write your own spells. It makes the spell more personal and I feel is an essential aspect to add to your practice. Here are some questions you will find helpful to ask yourself while writing a spell.

Writing your own spells and rituals

Know the Basics:
Know what magick is to you. Know different ways use the energy within and around you. How to go about raising, directing and grounding the energy. Know how to cast a magick circle, open the circle and close the circle. Know the basic outline of a spell.

Know the Intent or Purpose:
What is it you are trying to do? Are you looking to heal a illness, sell a house, or to celebrate a sabbat? Before you begin any magickal working, you should have a firm grasp on what outcome you are seeking. Be as specific as possible.

Know the Best Time to Work a Spell:
Do you know what type moon phase is best for money or healing spells? What days of the week are best for certain types of magick? What about the time of day, how will that affect your workings? Learn how these things affect magickal workings so you will know when to work your spell.

Know your Correspondences:
Learning which colors will bring luck, what herbs help in protection, what deity to appeal to is very useful if you wish to add those things in your spell. Learning about how different things can help your workings can only help in your goal.

Casting

Holy wow! 25,000 page views! Thank you to everyone who has been such an amazing support in my writing and for reading what I post :-) It does mean a lot to me that you all enjoy the work I put on here. I will strive to continue to provide you with fun and exciting information. Blessed be )O(

Cast/ing:
Is to 'put forth' energy or focus your will for a specific purpose like a spell or ritual.

Yes spells are fun and a big part of what pagans do, it might even be why some started looking into paganism, but there are rules as well. Please don’t ever just jump into spell casting without knowing what can happen in return. Read every spell carefully and make sure you feel comfortable with it before casting. Feel free to add or take away to a spell, but again keep the laws/rules/guidelines in mind when writing a spell.

These spells I post here are either written myself, or have collected from studies or fellow witches over the years. A few you may find on the internet because many pagans share the spells that have helped them in hopes it may help another in their path in this faith. That is why I am passing these on in this blog. In hopes that they will help you and those you love as much as they have helped me.

Casting a Circle

This is a very important step to casting. A circle should be cast before you perform any spell or ritual. A circle protects you from any outside forces while you are conducting your spell. One should never step out of the circle once cast. It is a good idea to have all your tools on your alter before casting a circle. If you do need to step out of the circle use your athame or wand to cut a door.

To cast a Circle

Envision a circle surrounding yourself and the space you are working in. If you need a tool to help you project your energy you can use something like a wand, staff, athame, crystal or what ever you use to help you direct your energy.

You then cast your circle. There is no set way for you to cast a circle. Again these are a few I like to use. Feel free to rewrite them so they fit your needs or even write your own.

A simple Circle

"I call the light of the starry heavens
I ask the lady to weave for me
A boundary encircling me in love and trust
A circle woven of stars and moonlight and morning dew
I seek power
I seek protection
I seek empowerment
I seek magick
Thus I do conjure thee, O circle of power
So mote it be" (my BOS)

Sacred Space

"Here we create this sacred space
Here in love adore this place
Together work, together play
And love the only rule we say

The Circle's wide enough for more
Inside the Sun illumes the door
Wider still and then we see
Another Circle merged with me

Shed the flesh that veils the light
Strip away the mirror's blight
Open wide and shine within
Look around, we all are kin."

Circle of Power

"O Circle of Power, I conjure thee,
That thou may be a boundary,
'Tween realms of flesh and Ancient Ones.
This shield 'gainst bane and harm becomes
A meeting place of Truth, Love, Joy,
Containing the power that we employ.
By God and Goddess, we conjure thee
This is our will, So Mote it Be!"
